Located in central Europe, the Republic of Slovenia is bordered by Italy (in the west), Austria (in the north), Hungary (in the east) and Croatia (in the south). Slovenia is a specific crossroad of trans-European routes. The capital of Slovenia is Ljubljana. The largest part of the territory of Slovenia is taken up by the Alps, this explains the fact why the surrounding nature of the country is so attractive. Moreover Slovenia is the third most forested country in Europe. The most densely-populated parts of Slovenia are the Ljubljana and Celje basins. Because of geographical diversity the country has different types of climates: continental, Alpine and Mediterranean.
